Reading Aloud in DEED!

Ms Dominguez reads aloud to her students in the Pink Group. Reading aloud to children is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child's future success. It's never too early to start reading to your kids. Experts recommend to start reading to your child as soon as they're born. So Read, Read, Read, you'll be glad you did!

Playing Board Games!

Why? Playing board games is good for your mental and physical health and your very sanity.

DEED: Are Your Kids Making Good Choices?

By: Lois T. Gumataotao

DEED Coordinator

LBJ’s value for the month of April is “good judgement”. During DEED, this value is reinforced through related stories and role playing. It is good to start giving your child practice in making good choices. The older your child gets, the more decision he/she will have to make on his/her own. Start giving him/her some practice now. Allow your child to decide between choices (walking or running in the house), making decisions on (homework or TV), or (candy or apple), etc. If he/she spills his/her drink, don’t rush to clean it, instead, ask, “What do you think you should do?” If he/she doesn’t answer right away, simply say, “We clean up our spills,” and then hand him a paper towel.

Taking the time to reinforce this value with your child can overcome many problems. Remember that you need to be consistent to make this work. Parents, together with the school we can make a difference!

DEED Promotes "Trustworthiness"

By: Lois T. Gumataotao
DEED Coordinator

During the month of March the DEED teachers will be discussing and reading books about “trustworthiness”. Most importantly, as parents, you want to trust your child to make the right choices when you are not around. Trust should be established between both parent and child at home. Like all the other monthly values that were taught, it should always starts with the parents teaching by example. Are You A Trustworthy Person? For each family member, take the self-evaluation and decide for yourself.

TRUE FALSE

1. I am honest.

2. I am reliable, I follow through on commitments.

3. I keep my promises, I am a person of my word.

4. I have integrity.

5. I am loyal when loyalty is appropriate.

6. I have the courage to do what is right, even when it seems difficult.

DEED KIDS CARE

By: Lois T. Gumataotao
DEED Coordinator

The word of the month for February is “caring”. The children will be involved in “caring” activities taught by the DEED teachers. You can continue to talk with your child about the importance of doing things for other people. Make them understand that they have the power to brighten another person's day through a simple act of kindness. Parents, it is also important to remember that you are a powerful role model for your child. Your child will learn from you if you are kind and helpful to other people. Try the following suggestions on how to be a caring person:

* Treat people with kindness and generosity.

* Help people in need.

* Be sensitive to people's feelings.

* Never be mean or hurtful.

* Think about how your actions will affect others.

* Always remember - we become caring people by doing caring things!

DEED's New Year's Resoutions

By Lois T. Gumataotao
DEED Coordinator

Welcome back from a joyous and safe holiday and welcome into New Year 2011! As we begin our 3rd quarter next Monday, January 10, let’s be mindful of the following guidelines for DEED:

 Registration forms must be completed for 3rd qtr. and verification of employment is required or latest check stub.

 3rd qtr. payment of $75 must be paid at any Bank of Guam branch on or before Monday by January 10, 2011 and returned to the DEED Coordinator no later than 12:00 p.m. January 10.

 Official pick up time is 5:00 pm. Habitual lateness can dismiss your child from the DEED Program. Late payment of $5 must be made within 5 working days.

 A note from the parent is required if your child will be a car or bus rider for a particular day, otherwise he/she will be sent to DEED.

On behalf of the DEED Family, we thank you for all your continued support, cooperation and partnership to make a difference in your child’s education.
