Hafa Adai Parents,

Welcome to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Nadine Sablan and I am the 2011-2012 DEED Coordinator. This year’s DEED teachers are Ms. Liwanag Dominguez (K8), Ms. Charlene Gumataotao (F4), Ms. Lois Gumataotao (ESL G) and Mrs. Lanee Lim-Mendiola (F3). Along with our amazing teachers, we are excited to bring the Direct Instruction Teaching Assistants (TAs) on board to help provide more opportunity in academic success to our little ANGELS during our after school program.

Our DEED classes have resume as of Monday, August 29, 2011 and by the looks of it, our little ANGELS and our parents are excited and ready for a fun and rewarding experience.

To maintain a smooth running DEED program, here are a few reminders to help out….

❶Dismissal is by 5:00pm

❷DEED Pick-Up parking area is on the Bus Depot side. All other gates are closed by regular school day hours.

Parents there is a DEED CHECK-IN whiteboard located in the Kid’s Square area that shares current happenings in our DEED program plus the classrooms your child(ren) is assigned to daily. Please refer to the Check-In before proceeding about our campus.

Provide your child a nutritious snack daily for our designated snack time-3:30-3:45pm

In planning fieldtrips to culminate learning outside of the DEED classrooms, we need our parents’ financial support to make that happen. Our program is anticipating going on one fieldtrip every quarter. Our DEED staff will keep you posted on the planning and dates of these upcoming events.

Please keep your child’s regular school day teachers informed of any last minute change to his/her schedule by written note no later than 2:00pm. No phone calls will be entertained.

Please have all necessary documents ready for the upcoming quarters, two (2) weeks ahead of time to continue your child in the DEED program without interruption. Reminder notices will be sent home.

Once again, Welcome and we look forward to a wonderful school year. Hip Hip Hooray for LBJ!

DEED: Have a Great & Safe Summer!

On behalf of our principal Mrs. Reyes, DEED teachers, staff and myself, I would like to thank you for your support, cooperation an daily collaboration to help make the DEED Program a success. For those of you who are leaving to another school, we will miss you. For those of you who will be returning and will be interested in having your child participate in the DEED Program for SY 2011-2012, please stay posted for the latest news on the DEED Program in the media. Each year is a new year and you will have to register and it is based on a first come first basis.

REMEMBER! Last day of DEED for students is Thursday, May 26, 2011!

Reading Aloud in DEED!

Ms Dominguez reads aloud to her students in the Pink Group. Reading aloud to children is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child's future success. It's never too early to start reading to your kids. Experts recommend to start reading to your child as soon as they're born. So Read, Read, Read, you'll be glad you did!

DEED: Are Your Kids Making Good Choices?

LBJ’s value for the month of April is “good judgement”. During DEED, this value is reinforced through related stories and role playing. It is good to start giving your child practice in making good choices. The older your child gets, the more decision he/she will have to make on his/her own. Start giving him/her some practice now. Allow your child to decide between choices (walking or running in the house), making decisions on (homework or TV), or (candy or apple), etc. If he/she spills his/her drink, don’t rush to clean it, instead, ask, “What do you think you should do?” If he/she doesn’t answer right away, simply say, “We clean up our spills,” and then hand him a paper towel.

Taking the time to reinforce this value with your child can overcome many problems. Remember that you need to be consistent to make this work. Parents, together with the school we can make a difference!
